چکیده مقاله:

Background: Hypertrichosis refers to the excessive and abnormal growth of hair of vellus, independent of the effects of androgen. Since acquired local hypertrichosis can be unilaterally detected in the casted limb, it causes asymmetry and problems with beauty. Therefore, evaluation of the risk factors of developing after casting is necessary in order to alleviate the concerns of patients, timely treatment as well as possible preventive measures. Case presentation: In this case series, 7 patients admitted to orthopedic department of Rasoul Akram Hospital in 1398 who had been developed post-casting hypertrichosis are studied. Demographic and clinical data of patients (age, sex, history of surgery of the affected limb, number and duration of previous castings, severity and location of the trauma) were collected using a checklist. Data were analyzed by SPSS 24 software. Finding revealed that prevalence of hypertrichosis is slightly higher in women (approximately 85%) and in a younger age group, mostly young adolescents. No significant difference was found between the variables and prevalence of hypertrichosis.
